Travel Tips

header_75.jpg

Travel Business Plus is a home based online travel business opportunity that allows you to earn commissions on flights, hotels, cars, cruises, concerts, shows, theater, musicals and sporting event tickets.   We also bring you additional information such as….

TRAVEL TIPS

  • Try traveling with a simple, rubber door-stop. It can stop intruders in their tracks. It’s inexpensive, light to pack and gives you the peace of mind to sleep well. The main door to your room usually has a good lock and peephole; some also supply a bar chain. But, if there is an adjoining room, that door usually has a fairly flimsy lock. The doorstop is especially useful in those situations.
  • Try taping a foot-long piece of duct tape around a pencil to stick in your bag. It can fix so many things. If a strap on a sandal snaps or a purse handle breaks, it is duct tape to the rescue!
  • Store all liquid products like shampoo, hairspray, etc. in zip lock baggies when packing. Many of these items can explode easily (some may explode from the high altitudes of flying) and the baggies will protect your other items.
  • Foot problems are a painful part of the frequent-flyer lifestyle. Long hours of walking in airports, through convention halls or on uneven surfaces can lead to blisters. Band-aids often slip off toes and heels, so try packing thin moleskin instead. Buy the soft self-adhesive sheets at a grocery or drugstore, cut them into small squares and keep them in your purse or briefcase. If your shoe starts to rub, cover the area right away before it turns into a nasty blister.
  • Make at least 2 photo-copies of each and every travel document that you have: Driver’s License; itinerary, passport, etc. Give one set to a family member at home and keep one set in your purse or bag (separate from the originals). This is in case your originals are lost or stolen.
  • If you are visiting a theme park/amusement park and you plan on riding the water attractions, pack extra dry socks for the family in a large zip lock bag. You can switch out the wet socks for the dry ones after riding.
  • Bring a small flashlight. You never know when you’ll suddenly be “in the dark” and find yourself in unfamiliar surroundings. At night, keep your flashlight by your bed.
  • Do not flash your passport in public. Discreetly show important documents to officials only.
  • Always bring a pair of flip flops (or thongs). You never know when you may need some temporary “shower shoes.”

You can search Google for additional travel tips.

Hotel Stay Tips

Travel Business Plus is a home based online travel business opportunity that allows you to earn commissions on flights, hotels, cars, cruises, concerts, shows, theater, musicals and sporting event tickets.   We also bring you additional information such as….

Tips for your Hotel Stay

·        Make your hotel reservations in advance, especially if you are visiting a place in peak season.

·        Print out your confirmation and receipt (if prepaid) and take these with you to your hotel.  At some point during your travels, you may need to prove that you made a reservation that somehow became “lost” in a computer system.

·        Soon after booking online, call your hotel or resort and confirm that it received your reservation and that all is well.

·        Give your hotel any special requests you may have, such as a nonsmoking room or king bed. You are never absolutely guaranteed these, but it helps to request or re-confirm these directly with your hotel in advance of arrival.

·        Ask the hotel what parking costs.  Parking can be astronomically high or included in the room rate.  For example parking in downtown Manhattan will differ greatly than parking at a hotel in Las Vegas.

·        Do not depend solely on the hotel’s alarm/wake up call service. Carry your own little alarm clock to catch an early morning flight or that pre-dawn sightseeing trip.

·        When you check into your hotel, ask reception to give you a card with the hotel’s name, address and telephone number. This will come in handy if you get lost or forget the name of your hotel.

·        Check before traveling to see if your hotel has a hair dryer, iron, coffee maker, etc. to avoid having to pack and travel with these often bulky items.

You can search Google for additional hotel stay tips.

CARRY-ON LUGGAGE

checked_baggage.jpg

WHAT TO BRING IN CARRY-ON LUGGAGE

Summer means it’s time for those family vacations.  With recent changes in the Transportation Security Administration policy, packing items, particularly for carry-on luggage, can be confusing.

Short Trips

For short trips in which a passenger may only have a carry-on, the TSA recommends remembering 3-1-1:3- ounce bottle or less (by volume) for liquid, gel or aerosol items, such as shampoo, lotion and contact solution: one quart-sized, clear , plastic, zip-top bag to store all liquid items; and on bag per passenger to be placed in the screening bin.

Following 3-1-1 will help X-ray screening lines move quicker, as it limits the amount of time TSA personnel need to take to search baggage.

Should a passenger require larger quantities of liquids, they should be declared at the checkpoint for inspection.  Medications, baby formula and good, breast milk and juice are allowed in reasonable quantities exceeding three ounces and are not required to be in a zip-top bag.

When is doubt leave the items in checked baggage.

ITEMS ALLOWED FOR CARRY-ON

Items that can be included in carry-on bags:

  • Walking canes and umbrellas.
  • Nail clippers that do not have an attached nail file.
  • Safety and disposable razors.
  • Syringes with documented proof of medical need.
  • Tweezers and eyelash curlers.
  • Electric wheelchairs, in accordance with airline requirements.

PROHIBITED ITEMS FOR CARRY-ON

The following items must be transported in checked baggage, or the items will be confiscated at the check point:

  • Weapons: Firearms, ammunition, toy guns, bow and arrows, billy clubs, blackjacks, brass knuckles, bull whips, cattle prods, crow bars, hammers, kubatons, martial art devices, gunpowder, mace, tear gas and pepper spray are forbidden. Unloaded firearms may be transported in checked baggage if declared at check-in and packed in a locked container.  Boxed small arms ammunition for personal use may be transported in checked baggage. Amounts vary by airline.
  • Knives.
  • Some sports equipment, including hockey sticks, golf clubs, baseball bats, etc.
  • Pressure containers.
  • Other hazardous materials, such as gas-powered tools, wet-cell batteries, poisons, infectious substances and dry ice.

PROHIBITED ITEMS FOR CARRY-ON AND CHECKED BAGS

  • Fireworks.
  • Flammable items.

News source is the Las Vegas Review Journal and tsa.gov.

MORE INFORMATION

  • Google carry-on luggage.
  • The TSA has a comprehensive list of specific items on it’s website at www.tsa.gov.

Luggage Identification Tips

Tips for Luggage Identification:

airport-luggage-14.jpg

Regarding luggage identification, it is strongly suggested you completely identify your luggage. It is really important to have identification tags on all your bags and carry-on bags.

When a piece of luggage has a bag tag missing, an agent does not always have the time to completely research a city listing. Remember to cut off old luggage tags. If you want your luggage back quickly, leave your phone number for airline personnel to call and if you are not at home someone else may be able to advise them where to forward the bag.

It is also suggested to use hard sided bags with no straps, hooks or belts, nor wheels. These items can get caught in turn or connecting conveyor belts which may jam up systems and tear up bags when they get caught.

Also, you can put your name, address and phone number on the inside of the bag along with an itinerary of your travels. Name tags and bag tags on the outside can get torn off.

Colorful or distinctive straps tied firmly around your luggage make it easier to spot on the baggage carousel at the other end.

American Airlines Charging for Checked Luggage

Rising oil prices, rising gas prices, increasing airfares and now we have to pay to check luggage?

Yes that’s right American Airlines announced this morning that as of next month they will begin to charge $15 to check your first bag. American Airlines said it is a decision made to combat the rising gas and oil prices. They feel that other airlines with follow suit.

What’s next, the flight crew walking down the isles expecting tips!

The fee does not apply to Americans Aadvantage Gold, Platinum and Executive Platinum members, So is American just taking it out on the rest of us, you decide.

Airlines are looking for ways to obtain additional revenues and are now charging for other aspects of a flight such as in-flight meals, movies/TV etc.

I personally see where this is going, since two carry on bags are permitted under a certain weight, it will be a battle for the overhead compartments and major delays boarding and departing the aircraft.

May 29, 2008.  US Airways Charging for Peanuts!?!

That’s right, effective June 1, 2008 US Airways will begin charging for Peanuts.  The airlines claimed that the peanuts were costing .03 per passenger.  How much do you want to bet that US Airways will be charging a lot more than .03 cents a bag.  I wonder if they will ad some type of detection device to make sure we don’t smuggle our own peanuts aboard!!!  It’s getting ridiculous.  I am just shaking my head, Sound off, how do you feel?
